Odds and Ends

I love these boys!!! Children are a blessing from the Lord. Here they were clowning around in the back seat of the car on our way to visit the dentist.
Poverty and gangs force people to become creative in order to make a living. Here is a mobile market. These people were selling cheese and fruits out of their truck.
It is common to see kids washing cars or selling goods to help their families make ends meet.
A ray of hope in a country wracked with turmoil.

The Funeral of Soyla

This month has been a whirlwind of activity. We have been in high gear trying to get ready for deputation. In the middle of all of the hustle and bustle Hannah woke up with half of her face paralyzed with Belle's Palsy. She has had pain on the bad side of her face and it has been difficult to talk, eat and blink. We are just praying for a miracle. I also had to make a trip to San Pedro Sula for the funeral of a dear saint who made her crossing into heaven. On our way to San Pedro Sula we saw several accidents along the way including this truck that was turned over.
The family carried her body to a town called Trinidad about two hours from San Pedro Sula.
Soyla was 81. She was such a wonderful person. She always had a warm handshake and a friendly smile. She had served the Lord for nearly twenty years. Her family will miss her a lot.
Giving the funeral message and prayer.
They carried her body from the entrance of the cemetery where the funeral was held, back over the hill to where she would be buried.
Most of the graves in this particular cemetery were mausoleum style, above ground.
This was a heart-wrenching scene. One of the family members became uncontrolled at this moment as they were preparing to bury her mother. She lady has gone through so much. Her husband immigrated to the U.S. to look for work, her fifteen year old son was just shot and killed about 7 months ago and now her mother died. She cried out "why is God taking away everything that I love?" I couldn't help but cry.
Heading home to Tegucigalpa after a long day. Like the light streaks in this picture, such is our life...quickly passing, here one moment gone the next...but a vapor.

The Hospital Adventure

Early Saturday morning we made our way to the Honduras Medical Center here in Tegucigalpa. Joseph has had trouble with his throat and ears for several years. Fluid was trapped behind his ear drums making it difficult for Joseph to hear. The doctors planned to removed his tonsils, adenoid, and put ventilation tubes in his ears to fix the problem. God really helped Joseph to feel calm before the surgery the night before he was a little anxious but he was a real trooper during the whole ordeal.
The big medical center.
These boys sure do love each other.
Heading to the fourth floor to the operating room.
Filling out paper work.
Getting weighed so the anesthesiologist knew exactly how much anesthesia to give him.
Daniel was taking everything in, this was a big adventure!!!
All ready to go into the operating room.
Now to sit and wait the two hours for the operation to finish.
Finally the doctor came out to inform us that everything was a success. Joseph was going to be in recovery for an hour or so before we could go in to see him. The doctor was very nice and professional and did an excellent job!!
Wow look at those tonsils!! Joseph wanted to keep them to take them to his school and show them off to his friends!!
Jo Jo are you ok?? Daniel prayed for his big brother after he came out of surgery, "Help, Jo Jo, amen".
Dr. Wilfredo Caceres, an excellent physician.
Joseph's anesthesiologist.
Joseph was feeling a little sore and tired. We hung out in the recovery room for a couple of hours.
Maxin' and relaxin'. We asked Joseph if he was ready to go home and he said no, he was having too much fun getting spoiled by the nurses. hahaha
Time to go home. It's going to be ice cream, jello, and soft foods for a few days all things that Joseph loves to eat!!
Wheelchairs are always a blast!!
Thanks everyone for your interest and prayers. God is so good and helped the operation to be a success. Before long Joseph will be back to his good ol'e self.

Tuesday Night at Las Uvas

Take a trip with us to a Tuesday night service in Las Uvas. At 6:00 pm the church van pulls up outside of our house to take us the 15 minutes over to the church. Raul Florentino is our driver!!
Bumping through traffic as we head to church.
Tegucigalpa has so many beautiful views.
Once we arrive in Las Uvas we follow our church route picking up people for service. Pablo and his family live in the little metal house at the top of the hill. A family newly converted and faithful to church.
Noely is ten years old and lives with her parents and little brother in this small shack. She loves coming to church and this past Sunday her parents came for the very first time!!! Pray that they will soon get saved!
One by one they come into the light of the church to worship the Lord, sing praises, testify and hear a Bible message.
Lots of kids...a bright future for the church.
Singing praises to the King of kings and Lord of lords.
Norma and her daughter Selenia are both new converts. They are learning how to lead hymns, they did a great job and have learned to sing quite a few of them.
The guitar is a must-have instrument in Spanish churches!!
God helped us in this service. At the end of the message seekers lined the altar. They are a people who are sincere and hungry for God's truth.
Hugs and handshakes good-bye. "See you on Sunday"...
Two weeks ago this little girl's daddy was shot and killed just down the hill from the church. He was a guard in the community and was killed by another guard because of envy and anger over a lost job. Please pray for his wife Carmen and her four little children who are left behind to make a living. They needs God's strength right now.
To all of our supporters who gave towards the van project, thank you thank you thank you!! It has been put to good use and continues to be a huge blessing!
The view of the city from Las Uvas...just gorgeous.
Home again home again jiggety jig.

A Short Time Back in Honduras

We had a safe and good trip back to Honduras. On our drive home from San Pedro Sula we stopped to eat along Lake Yojoa.
The kids got to play and stretch their legs while we waited for our food.
While at the restaurant, Joseph overheard one of the families talking. He came over to Hannah and said, "hey mom, I think that family is talking in Arabic". Sure enough they were an Arab family from San Pedro Sula. The mother was from Beit-Jala, Israel and her husband (who wasn't along) was from Jordan!!! They were so happy to meet us. They talked in Arabic with Hannah and English with me!! Ha ha  and they also have a daughter (who also wasn't along) with Down Syndrome! We connected with them on so many levels. They gave us their phone number and told us that they live right across the street from the Arab Club in San Pedro. Its amazing how God can guide us to cross paths with other people. Hopefully we can reconnect with them in the future!

New Years in Pennsylvania

For New Year's we went to Pennsylvania and surprised my parents. They thought we had gone on a vacation in Honduras and had no clue that we were coming home. It was great spending time with them and my older brother Scott.
Relaxing together.
We have used this manger scene ever since I was a little kid.
New Years Eve night we had our family Christmas. The boys played a game where they rolled a number and had to walk around a track of snowmen. Each snowmen had different things to do and certain ones that they landed on allowed them to open a present. It was a lot of fun.
Picking out one of the prizes.
Daniel appreciated each gift he received.
A new DS game!!
Wow a roaring dinosaur!!
I love the look of wonder and excitement!!
A new hand-made leather wallet from Honduras!!
Uncle Scott's hand-made hammock made by men in the penitentiary in Tegucigalpa.
Pennsylvania Dutch New Years Eve tradition...hot dogs and sauerkraut!
Mmmmmmm.....truly divine!
We truly had a wonderful Christmas and New Years!! 2015 was a good year, looking forward to what God has in store for us in 2016!
