God has been blessing in some wonderful ways lately. Just Sunday night a young man who recently started attending our church gave his heart to Christ. We have sensed a special presence of the Lord helping us and guiding us. Since about November we have seen a steady influx of new people coming to our Tiloarque church. It's exciting to watch God work. I had to buy more chairs because our little church was filling up. Now we are running out of room. There is no where else to go with chairs. Our prayer request to the Lord this year is that he would help us find a new place where we can either remodel or build a church. Land is very expensive where we are located and we don't have that kind of cash to go out and buy something. But we serve a great big and wonderful God. Will you help us pray that the Lord will supply this need and give us a permanent place where we can expand and grow the ministry. I don't know how or when but I know He is going to answer this prayer in a marvelous way to bring glory and honor to His name. Thank you for your prayers.

Christmas Still Lingers in the Air

Hannah's cousin arrived in Tegucigalpa yesterday on a work team from the Nazarene Church. They are building a parsonage this week and after the team leaves he plans to stay with us for a week. So I went and met him at the airport and he gave us this suitcase full of goodies from Hannah's mom. It was Christmas all over again!!! haha. We just can't stop having Christmas.

Saturday was a big work day in Las Delicias. Our goal for the day was to make 200 adobes! I made a big appeal to the people on Thursday night at our service to help us out. I brought four of my guys from Tegucigalpa and headed out at 5:30 a.m.

We had an awesome turn-out! There were about six guys from Delicias plus us five from Tegucigalpa. After a word of prayer we hit the mud pit and things began to happen. These guys had a mind to work.

This was Pablo's first time to make adobes. He seemed to really enjoy it but by the end of the day his back was really hurting.

I kept thinking of the Israelites and their captivity in Egypt. They must have worked something like this.

We set a record and made 360 adobes!!!! We have a total now of 550. I think we will soon start laying block on the church. I can't wait to see this thing finished!

This was my snack before heading home. They made me fried mustard greens with eggs. Everyone was saying how awesome mustard greens were, I told them I had never tried it. Well, I tried it. You know what? It was actually pretty good. It tasted like spinach.

Christmas in January!!!!!!!

The Beavertown God's Missionary Church, our home church in Pennsylvania sent us two big boxes full of Christmas gifts. Maureen Slavens is the missionary director at the church and organized this special show of love. We had so much fun opening up our gifts it was like having Christmas all over again.

Joseph was so excited he could hardly wait to open up the gifts!

What a blessing!! A few of the things that we received were jumper cables, a clock, candles, slippers, pans, doilies, home decor, a calendar, monthly planner, music cd's, Bible stickers, and much more. THANK YOU BEAVERTOWN GOD'S MISSIONARY CHURCH!!!!! WE appreciate it sooo much!

A Day With Friends

Today we got together with some of our missionary friends, the Delongs and the Robberts. The Delongs will soon be moving back to the states so we wanted to take this time to have one more get-to-gether with them before they leave. So we went to a zoo and had a good time of fellowship.

More Adobes

Thursday was another work day in Las Delicias. It was back to mixin' mud, and making adobes. While clearing out the old adobes that were already dried I found this little guy hiding out. He looks big in the picture but he was just a baby, I'm not sure if he was a rattler or not but he soon lost his head.

We made 132 new adobes, counting the old ones that gives us a total of 189. Just 411 more to go!!

What do you on a hot work day when you want a drink of Pepsi and there are no cups? Pour it in a plastic bag, tie it tight and bite a corner out of the bottom.

Ok get this. On Saturday we had a wedding in the afternoon, a reception, then we all went to Las Uvas and had a Christmas play and a Christmas dinner. Talk about a very busy weekend!!! It was great though. The ladies made 17 full chickens for the dinner. This is Rita, she is one of our main ladies, we couldn't do it without her. She is putting the condiments and spices on the chicken.

Everybody pitched in with the food and decorations. They worked all day on Friday getting stuff ready. Even Joseph helped out buttering up the trays to put the chicken in.

This was our first wedding for the Tiloarque church. Everyone was so excited. This is Roberto's and Jenny's daughter Genesis she was the flower girl and Joseph was the Bible bearer.

Greeting family and friends as they begin to arrive. The man is the bride's grandpa and the lady on the right is the bride's sister who lives in Guatemala. They hadn't seen each other for three years, she made a special trip to just be at the wedding.

It's customary that the couple sits during the ceremony.

It's also customary to "tie" the couple together with a rope. It's symbolizes unity. Then they pass coins from one to the other to represent that was is his is hers and vice verse.

Jenny's mother passed away when she was only 10 and she never knew her dad. So she was raised by her grandparents. She thinks of them as her parents.

The whole family. God has really been working in this family. They started coming to church back in January during the marriage seminar. He just got saved back in September and she got saved in October. They wanted to get married and also start in discipleship for baptism. They are such a blessing and we wish them the best!

We had the reception in front of the house. Needless to say it was crammed but at least we all had a good time.

Hannah made a masterpiece of a wedding cake!! The top was strawberry, the middle was yellow and the bottom chocolate. They all loooooved it!!

Then we all piled up in some vans and headed to Las Uvas for a Christmas play and a supper. It was a very busy day but oh a very good one!!!

Christmas Activities

This past week was crazy! We had so much stuff going on. First off, Hannah had to bake a bunch of snacks for a Christmas party for Daniel and his therapy classes. He was sick and wasn't able to go.

I think it was Tuesday Hannah had the young people over to practice the Christmas play. Here they are eating lunch.

On Friday was Joseph's school Christmas play. He was a shepherd and was so excited to get dressed up for the part. After the play he didn't want to take it off and ended up going to McDonald's looking like this. Everyone thought it was so cute.

Mud, Tarantulas, and Pine Needles

Saturday was a work day at "Las Delicias". Our contact person Jose, has been itchin' to build a church on his property. God really has been helping us in this new work and we are hoping to get an adobe church built soon. This was all a new experience for me. I didn't have a clue how to make adobe blocks and was anxious to see how this whole process was done. Roberto and Jenny, Baudilio and myself headed for the country at about 5:30 a.m. As we came down the road to the farm I had to stop the car as a herd of cattle came towards us. This is their main traffic around these parts.

It kinda reminds me of Pennsylvania. It's nice to get away from the city from time to time.

First thing on the agenda was to find some rich dark soil and start piling it up. Jose found a good spot along his pond. We dug and dug and piled and piled for about four hours.

The soil was perfect for making adobes. Roberto (in the white hat and boots) started attending our Tiloarque church in January after being invited to a marriage seminar. He and Jenny got saved back in September and have been doing so good spiritually. Through Roberto we got in contact with his dad Jose who is the owner of this farm. He invited us to come and start a work there with his family and neighbors.

The ladies kept us fed well while we worked.

Our mountain of dirt kept growing. I really enjoyed working with these guys, talking about politics, corruption, farming and legends like the duendi and the chupa cabra. We shared a lot of laughs.

While we finished digging up the dirt. Baudilio and another boy went to fill up sacks with dried pine needles to use in the adobe mix.

Jose gave me a hunk of one of his pineapples. Mmmmmm sooo good.

After we had our dirt piled up we needed to clear a flat space where we could lay out our adobes to dry.

The next step was to haul buckets of water from the pond to start mixing up the dirt.

Then you have to throw in the dried pine needles.

Stomp it and mix it up really good...

Load up the wheelbarrow and carry it to where we will be making and drying the adobes.

We made two wooden molds, 10 inches wide by 16 inches long. You gotta fill and pack the molds really good and tight so they don't fall apart when you slip the mold off.

After it's all packed in tight and smoothed off you carefully take off the mold.

One of my best adobes of the day. Not perfect but not bad for a gringo's first time.

A very very dirty job. But hey, it's lot's of fun.

Our team of workers. They all did a super job. Needless to say we were all tired, we ended up making 57 adobes. That evening we held a service and a new couple got saved!! It was definitely a good day in paradise.

H.I.M. Central America Pastor's Retreat

The last week of November we attended the H.I.M. pastor's retreat in Guatemala, City. I always look forward to getting together with the pastors and their families. I think this year was one of the best retreat we have had to date. God really blessed! Here is the group that ended up coming, several pastors were absent due to financial difficulties.

There was good fellowship and enriching conversations. Iron sharpening iron.

Bro. Steve Hight was our special speaker. He tackled the topics with ease and did a fantastic job. Our theme was "Lessons from the Life of Paul". We dwelt with methods and strategies, music, resolving church problems, training leaders etc all based on the life and teaching of the Apostle Paul.

Bro. Grant dealing with "How to Organize a Church". He later opened it up for questions and answers. We had some great discussions in this session.

Michael Mason talking about the "Importance of Music in the Ministry of Paul". Very eye opening and intriguing. He did a great job!

New Bible Translation

We had a very interesting encounter with a Wycliffe Bible translator while we were at the retreat. We didn't have long to talk and I don't even remember the man's name but it was so exciting to hear him tell us that his project of 26 years has been completed!! He just finished translating the New Testament into a Mayan indigenous tribe language in Guatemala. In July they will be having an official presentation of the New Testament to this people group. After I explained to Joseph what this man had done he was enthralled by the talk of "Indians" and Bible translating. He later said that when he grows up he is going to be a Bible translator too. It made me feel a little proud to know that a Bible translator was a hero to my little boy.

Thanksgiving Review

We have been on the run for the last two weeks or so. First off was a trip to San Pedro Sula to be with our missionary friends, Steve and Yvonne Delong and Zack and Sarah Robberts. We were invited to join them for Thanksgiving. It was so refreshing to just get away from everything and enjoy some fellowship and good food!! As you can see by the picture Joseph enjoyed being with the kids. He was kinda surprised that these kids could speak English. haha.

Ready to sink our teeth into some juicy turkey and scrumptious food. It was heavenly!

In my devotions I have been reading the book of Ezekiel. I have found it fascinating. The opening chapter has left me meditating upon it now for over a week. In Ezekiel's first vision he sees four living creatures or cherubs that descend out of heaven. They have four heads, one head of a man, a head of a lion, the head of an ox and the head of an eagle. They have four wings and move upon wheels but Ezekiel states that they looked like a wheel within a wheel and they were full of eyes. Above these four creatures appears a throne and the likeness of God sitting upon the throne with a rainbow of glory shining about him.

I love the description and graphic detail that the prophet gives, it's powerful.

I have tried to glean some truth from these scriptures to apply to my spiritual life and frankly have found it a little difficult. But one thing that definitely has been impressed upon me is awe. Awe of these strange creatures and the glory of God upon His throne. After God spoke with Ezekiel through this vision and he was returned to Babylon the prophet sat astonished for a week! He didn't have words to express himself, he was left meditating and contemplating the vision. What power!!

When was the last time you were left in awe of God and His mysteries? When was the last time you had a real glimpse of His power and glory? We have put God into blue jeans and t-shirts, made him so contemporary and relevant that we have lost a very important element;awe. Sometimes it is so spiritually enriching to go back and read the visions of Ezekiel, Daniel and John and be left in total awe, contemplating the absolute power and mysteries of our Heavenly Father. Oh to be awestruck with His word!

What Have We Been Up To?

Here is a little update of what we have been up to over the last few weeks. First off our church people had a garage sale to raise money for our building fund. Everybody worked hard and I think it was one of our biggest and best yet! We sold nearly $300 worth of donated items! Not bad. We had a lot of clothes and we plan to have another sale next Saturday.

Finding some great deals!

We have been making some headway at our new work at Las Delicias. A few weeks ago we had our first convert, that was very exciting and Jose seems to be doing really good. Plans are in the making to start building a church building out of adobe mud brick. This will be my first at mud bricking making, I'm anxious to see how it is done. Keep praying for this project!

We had an awesome weekend of services at Las Uvas. There was a good turn out on the first night with visitors from several other churches that came in to support us. God really moved in the service and we ended with seekers around the altar. As you can see in the picture it was very cold!!

God really used the ministry of Bro. Grant to touch our hearts and challenge us to live holy lives!

On Saturday morning I baptized four candidates but I forgot to take my camera to the baptismal. On Sunday morning we had a combined service with both of our church groups and one lady representing the Las Delicias work. We praise the Lord for the three years we have been working in Las Uvas and we hope God gives the work there many more years!

I got a phone call today with the sad news that a pastor friend of ours from Siquatepeque lost his 18 year old daughter this afternoon in a tragic accident. I don't know all the details at this point, only that she was run over by a dump truck. I'm sure they would appreciate your prayers during this horrible time. The pastor's name is Jose Fuentes.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the 40 Hour Fast!! God has been working in awesome ways! Sunday morning our church was full and God moved in the service. Several were seeking the Lord at the altar and one lady got saved! Her husband had gotten saved about three weeks ago and he had really been praying for her, now they are both serving the Lord together as a young couple. We can definitely feel a difference after praying, thanks for taking the time to help carry our burdens, it was not in vain!!We are so grateful to our friends, family and supporters who have taken a keen interest in our ministry. We can't do it without you! Now we just ask for continued prayers throughout this week as Bro. Sidney Grant will be with us for a weekend revival in Las Uvas. We are expecting great things from God.

A few weeks ago Daniel had his 45 minutes of fame! The place where he gets his therapy has a tv program every Wednesday on channel 10. It's called Healthy Wednesday. The therapists take one of the children that is in the program along to the TV station and they use them as models to show people at home how to give therapy. This time they wanted Daniel to go along. It was kinda fun to see behind the scenes as to how a show is produced.

What's Going On?

Just wanted to write an update and let you all know how things are going. We have been very busy!! God has been helping us with some new ministries. We are very very excited about the Bible Institute. There are 8 students coming every Saturday to study. We just finished with Orientation Class and we started Old Testament Survey. It has been a lot of fun and the students seem to be enjoying it immensely.

At Las Uvas church we have been holding a type of VBS on Sunday's with the theme "Two Roads". It is geared towards children but we try to incorporate the adults as well.

We are going to give a prize to the child, youth and adult who wins the most points by memorizing scriptures, being faithful to attend and bringing visitors. It will be interesting to see who wins.

We have had some new people attending at Tiloarque church. There have been some tough times lately but we are encouraged and moving forward. Please pray a special prayer for our Tiloarque church.

We have started holding services at Las Delicias a small farming village about an hour and twenty minutes from here. We are excited about the possibilities and the potential in this new work. Hopefully we will be able to start working on the church there in November after the rainy season.

The family is doing good. Joseph loves going to kindergarten. He gets up early and is on the bus by 6:30 a.m. and is home at 3:00 p.m. Daniel is doing good and is growing like a weed. Most of his time is spent eating and sleeping. haha.

Wedding Bells

Last weekend Sandra's son Oscar got married and we were invited to the wedding. Here are my handsome boys all ready to go.

Therapy

We got Daniel started in Early Stimulation Therapy to help with his muscle tone. We have to take him twice a month where workers evaluate his progress and teach us how to do therapy at home.

Part of his therapy is body massages twice a day. This is the part he loves!!

Exploring New Possibilities

Arriving at "Las Delicias" a little farming village outside of Tegucigalpa. This couple walking up the path attend our Tiloarque church. The man's parents are from Delicia and they have been wanting us to come and start a church. Last Thursday we went on an exploratory visit to see what kind of possibilities there were and to ask the people to pray for God's will.

The man with the guitar is Jose. He has had meetings here in his yard for many years but they have never been able to really establish a church. They have been working on building an adobe church and have about 3 feet of the walls built.

During the meeting I gave a summary of my call, the history of the mission in Honduras and an overview of our doctrine. I want the people to clearly understand that if we come we will definitely need a lot of help and support from them. I asked them to take this week to pray about it and I will be giving them an answer in the next few days. I would also ask our readers to please help us pray about this "Macedonian" cry to come and help. We only want God's will. My life long goal is to plant 100 churches and I would love for this to be one of them. But I don't want to overextend ourselves, I desperately need pastors and leaders and we have some men who are committed to helping us, but there is still a lot of training to do. I just want to make sure this is God's will.

School Days

First Day of Kindergarten

It's one of those moments that makes you think, "how is this possible?" but today Joseph started kindergarten. He is really excited about it and really likes his school and teacher. We will see what he says in about two or three weeks when homework starts building up. haha.

He is attending a Bilingual school called "Nashville School". This is his teacher. She seems very nice and speaks very good English. We hope that he will get a good solid English foundation in reading and writing but we also want him to learn to speak Spanish while talking and playing with his friends.

There are a lot of kindergartners in the school so they have them divided into three or four separate classes. Joseph is in Kindergarten class C.

Class Is Now In Session!

For some time now we have been seeing the need to form leaders in our churches. Without pastors, teachers and established deacons we will not be able to grow our churches or plant new ones. So on Saturday we had our first Bible Institute class. We are working as an extension Institute of the Hispanic Bible Institute in Florida. They are sending us the books and notes and helping to oversee this endeavor. We are really excited about the group that we have signed up. We just ask you to pray that they will work hard and that they will be used by God in a powerful way.

Our eight students. Right now we are working on Orientation and then we hope to start with Old Testament Survey and probably Personal Evangelism.

San Pedro Sula Trip Report

God heard your prayers and we had a wonderful revival in San Pedro Sula. I really felt the prayers of God's people, there were many seekers at the the altar, some new converts, it was very exciting!! I just praise God for his faithfulness, we can't do anything without Him.

It was nice to see some old friends from the church. There were also a lot of new people that have started to attend since we were there last.

Near San Pedro Sula is an old Spanish fort that dates back to the 1750's. I had visited the fort before but Hannah and the kids had never been there. So we decided to take a day trip to Omoa and take a little tour.

In October 1779 150 British troops attacked the fort and overtook the 365 Spaniards who were defending it. The British only held the fort for a few months and abandoned it after so many deaths from tropical diseases and the threat of a counterattack by Spain. In this picture Joseph is pointing out some of the cannon ball holes left in the wall from the attack. The fort was also attacked by pirates from the sea and there are still holes in the top walls from those attacks as well.

The Spaniards brought cocoa beans, gold and silver and other trading goods and stored them here at the fort before transporting them back to Spain.

Turrets on the top walls where guards would shoot at any approaching enemies.

A Trip to Catch Crayfish

About three years ago I went on a fishing trip with brother Baudilio and his sons to catch crayfish. At the time Joseph was too little to go with me, but this year he was big enough to make the trip. He was so excited. The night before we left he was helping me get our picnic lunch all ready and he couldn't stop talking about all the fun we were going to have. At about 2:30 in the morning he came and woke us up wondering if it was time to go fishing yet!! He couldn't wait to try out his new net and also do some swimming in the creek.

I bought two little nets so it would be easier to catch the crayfish. Mine is the yellow one and Joseph's is the blue one.

We had to make about a three mile hike back into the middle of nowhere. Part of way was this little cow path down to the bottom of the valley to the creek. We got a good work out.

The creek was at the base of this mountain. We had to wind our way to the bottom of the mountain.

The creek was a beautiful mountain stream with little waterfalls. It didn't take Joseph long at all to get his feet in the water and before long he was swimming and sliding down the waterfalls. He had so much fun, he didn't want to go home.

There were some massive water spiders clinging to the big boulders. They gave me the creeps.

Here is a picture of the crayfish Joseph caught, (with a little help of course). He was pretty excited!

I'm not sure if this is considered a crayfish or something like a freshwater lobster but this thing was huge! From the tip of its pincher to it's tail was about a foot long. They also caught some freshwater crabs.

Joseph spent most of the day swimming rather than fishing. He is a little water bug.

Between everybody we caught about 30lbs. of crabs and crayfish. They will either be fried or made in soup. I prefer them fried!! They plan to bring us some tomorrow.

Here is the gang that went. It was a lot of fun the only thing was making the hike back out. I thought I was going to die!!!! It was soo hot, my face was burning red, my heart was pounding like a jackhammer and I was sweating like a pig. haha. I was never so glad to see our car. Almost the whole way out Joseph would ask me, "is it around the next bend?", "is that the last corner?"... It was good exercise but I wouldn't want to do it everyday.

Day 6

Thursday was our free day to go site seeing and souvenir shopping.

Enjoying some good Honduran food. A variety of grilled meats with rice and beans. mmmmm.

For supper that night we all decided to be brave and dive into the Honduran culture and try a food none of us had ever tried before...iguana soup! Here is a look at the pieces of meat that came in the soup. Notice the long tail in the middle.

hmmmm not bad, it's tastes like chicken!! haha that's no joke either, it did taste like a chewy gooey chicken. Everybody seemed to like it, but I don't think we will be craving it.

As a token of our appreciation we presented the group with a hand carved picture of a Honduran village. At the bottom is engraved "Richfield Evangelical Methodist Church, Honduras 2011".

The Montoya family volunteered their services and their home for the group. They did a great job. It was a big help to us.

12:30 a.m. Friday morning and the group is on the bus ready to make the four hour trip back to San Pedro Sula for their 7:00 a.m. flight to the states.

Day 5

Wednesday we headed back to Honduras and arrived home around 3:00 p.m. We hit the streets in our community handing out church brochures and inviting people to church.

We broke up into three teams and went door-to-door leaving church invitations.

It was a hot afternoon so after all that walking we decided to eat a tutti-frutti. They are made from hunks of fruit frozen in fruit punch. mmmmm so good and refreshing.

That night at church we had a bilingual service. Kristen Artz and Caila Rice both shared devotionals.

Day 4

Still a little sleepy the group was up bright and early Tuesday morning to start priming and painting. But first was a scrumptious breakfast at the hotel.

I'm not sure how we did it, but twelve of us piled into our five passenger 4Runner and headed to the church to work.

A beautiful church!! The pastor didn't want the bottom painted because he plans to paint a base around the bottom of the walls. The team did an excellent job!

Day 3

Monday morning was spent traveling to Nicaragua. It took us longer than usual since we couldn't all ride together in our vehicle. Part of the group rode with us and the other part when on a bus. We had a few small difficulties at the border but we finally made it into Nicaragua. We arrived at about 2:00 p.m. and we were so hungry. So the first thing we did was head to a local restaurant for some grub. Brent and Brenda shared a romantic pineapple juice together during the meal.

Since we arrived later than we had planned we decided to go ahead and start priming the inside of the church that night. This church has existed for more than eight years but this was the first time it was ever painted. What a huge blessing for this congregation!

We used an oil based paint, so it was really sticky, so sticky that Blake could hold his brush on the tips of his fingers without it falling.

Today was a lot of fun. The group did good singing special songs, giving testimonies and sharing devotionals in the services. We had a special lunch with our church people after this morning's service. I think the group enjoyed trying Honduran food.

The Power Painters!

Day 1 was a long hard work day for the team. After breakfast and money exchanging they were off to paint the church at Las Uvas. The first thing they had to do was sand down the walls and get off all the gritty sand. Blake was Mr. Sand Man.

The girls tried their hand at sanding. They did a pretty good job!

Joseph couldn't waaaaait to get his hands in the primer!! He loved it.

They kept those rollers spinnin' all day long. We started working at about 9:30 a.m. and we finished at about 7:30 p.m. It was a long day!

I'm not sure if there was more paint on the walls or on the people but hey it was fun!

It seemed like the priming took forever. At least by this time we could see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Now to add some color!

The team has arrived, everybody and all bags are accounted for!!! Here we are ready to make the four hour trip to Tegucigalpa and I just walked through the door a few minutes ago. We are all ready to crash for the night. I just thought I would let a few worried parents back in the states know that your children are doing great!! No worries.

From time to time we get to cross paths with other missionaries working here in the country. It's always fun to fellowship together and catch up on what is going on in each others lives. Well the other day Zach Robberts called me on his way out of San Pedro Sula and said he was heading to Tegucigalpa to pick up a shipment of supplies for their clinic. He and Jeffrey McDowell stopped in for the night and we had a great time together playing games, telling jokes and sharing stories. In the morning I went with them to pick up their boxes and get them loaded up for their trip home. Sadly six of their boxes were stolen from the container while it was sitting in customs. There is really nothing that can be done. Such is life on the mission field. But at least the rest of the things safely arrived and Zach and Jeffrey made a safe trip home.

Well I guess I'm a little bit behind the times. The prayer station is an outreach idea that has been around a long time and I have heard of many people using it. But for whatever reason until last Saturday I had never tried it but have been wanting to try it out for quite sometime. Well for starters I had to make my own stand. So I had a banner printed out and drilled some holes through our portable table to hold the banner. I sat up along the main road in and out of our community and handed out church brochures. I got some great responses!! I was able to talk to several people who don't go to church, I got some phone numbers to do some follow up, and handed out all the brochures I had with me. I really enjoyed it and I hope to do it again soon.

To Nicaragua and Back

The week after returning to Honduras we made a trip into Nicaragua to pay a visit to the churches. Rigoberto Vasquez who is the director of the H.I.M. Hispanic churches came with his wife to encourage the churches. We had a very nice visit and God blessed in the services. Here we are at the border, Daniel's first time to Nicaragua.

Joseph Turns 5

Well Joseph turned five (for real this time). We had already had two big parties when we were home in the states so we didn't feel like doing the piñata and party thing all over again. He was really wanting to go to a children's museum here called Chiminike so that is where we headed. We didn't tell him that we were going there so he was really surprised. Here he is sitting next to a statue of Chiminike, the frog after whom the museum is named.

One of his favorite things at the museum is the "grocery store". He did well discerning the difference between healthy food and junk food.

The Trail Back Home

Home sweet home!! Thank the Lord for a very nice trip home today. Our flights went very well and the boys both did great. No major problems, that's a miracle! I guess one of the scariest times was when we landed in Tegucigalpa. We haven't flown into this airport for quite awhile, we were reminded once again that the runway is very short!!

Sandra came and picked us up at the airport. We were met with balloons and decorations as we walked through the door. Sandra and Rita had been decorating all morning and had lunch waiting when we got home. What a nice surprise!! It felt good to be back.

The ladies couldn't wait to get their hands on the new little missionary. They were so excited!!

Tonight the church people are coming over for a welcome home party so I'm sure Daniel will get lots of love. Thanks so much for praying for our travels, now it's time to get back to work!

The last two weeks have been very busy. First off we had an early birthday party for Joseph at nana's house. He turns five on June 30th but we won't be here to celebrate so we celebrated early. Clara the clown was the star of the party!! Joseph hadn't seen her in two years!!

Well Daniel is growing like a weed. Most of his time is spent either eating or sleeping. I guess that's what little growing boys are supposed to do.

Joseph on the other hand has so much energy he doesn't know what to do with it. We try to channel that energy and put it to good use, so the other day I had him help me sweep out the van. He enjoyed it for about the first ten minutes and then it was off to something else.

What a beautiful dedication service. Mary Rine did a wonderful job singing, "Your Whole Life Long". The song expresses our desire that Daniel and Joseph follow Christ all of their lives. We had this song sung at both of their dedications.

I've been running around so much I'm just now getting pictures of my sister-in-law's wedding on my blog. It was a beautiful wedding. They were going to have an outside wedding but it got rained out. They had it at the Bellwood Country Club. It turned out really nice.

Obviously Fuschia Pink and Black were their colors. It looked great.

The cake tasted as good as it looked.

One last drag out fight between the sistas before the wedding. haha. You never would have guessed that Hannah and Daniel were discharged from the hospital the same day as the wedding.

Liz's stepdad walked her down the aisle and then her grandfather gave her away. Her grandpa just came through two major brain surgeries where they placed a shunt to drain fluids from a tumor. It was a blessing to have him there that day and he did so well despite all he had come through.

This was really special for me because it was my first American wedding that I ever performed. Extra special because it was my sister-in-law's wedding.

It was a long day when I traveled home from Honduras. I first had to take a four hour bus ride from Tegucigalpa to San Pedro Sula. I always get car sick on those windy mountain roads. Then my flight left at 1:20 a.m. from San Pedro Sula to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, after about a two hour layover I headed for Columbus, Ohio and then went straight to the hospital to see Hannah and Daniel.

What An Adventure!

I feel like I have hardly had time to breath I have been on the go so much and so many exciting things have happened. Sunday Daniel was born, I dedicated a church, took a trip to Nicaragua for a Sunday night service and Monday baptismal, came back to Tegucigalpa on Monday night, packed on Tuesday and got a bus to San Pedro Sula where I caught a plane at 1:20 A.M. to fly to Fort Lauderdale, from Ft. Lauderdale to Charlotte, N.C. from Charlotte to Columbus,Ohio and from Columbus all the way to the hospital in Cincinnati. But all the effort was worth seeing my family and especially Daniel. What a sweet little guy. Even though he is four weeks early he is doing really good. He is eating good, looking around and is just a champ! Joseph has been bouncing off the walls with excitement. He is the proud big brother and is doing a good job at it. He keeps saying "Isn't Daniel adorable?".

What a surprise! I'm a proud father again! Daniel Laith Kuhns was born on Sunday, April 17th and weighed 6 lb.s and 6 oz. We were all taken off guard because Hannah's due date was May 12th. I was in the middle of a really busy weekend when I got the phone call from Hannah that she was on her way to the hospital. We were getting ready to start the service to dedicate the Las Uvas church. So I told the people to pray for Hannah and they were all excited! After the service I got another phone call saying that Daniel was born cesarean and he and mommy were doing great! That's when my phone died. We had to make a trip into Nicaragua and I didn't have any phone service so at least I got to find out what it was before leaving. Right now I'm packing and getting ready to fly home tomorrow morning. Pray for traveling mercies, I feel so terrible that I couldn't have been with Hannah and Joseph but the Lord knows all about it. Children are a blessing from the Lord and now I have been doubly blessed!!! So excited. I can't wait to hold my new little boy.

Gearing Up!

I'm really excited about this weekend. This is a real mile marker for our ministry and I thank God for how He has helped us. Yesterday some of the ladies of the church went shopping for decorations and food for the dedication at Las Uvas. I love it when our people get excited about the church and are willing to work and help. Here some of them are in the market doing some shopping.

It was a hot day!! After getting their shopping done they enjoyed some Chinese food for lunch.

Something I Like in Honduras

Honduras may not have all the conveniences that we would normally have in the states. We don't have a real Wal-mart, or Target and we don't have Cabelas. But there are neat little things here that you won't see in the states. Take for instance this key maker. He has a van with his tools, and a little generator to run his cutting machines and he sets up store right along the road. I just had to pull off the side of the road and in about three minutes I had three copies of my keys made. haha. How cool is that?

Big Weekend Ahead!

Please be praying for our church revival that starts this coming Friday night here at our church in Tiloarque. John Dykes along with Ovidio Escobar will be flying in from Florida for the meeting. Pray for Bro. Ovidio as he will be preaching and for Julio and Nemecio who are coming from Nicaragua to sing. I'm expecting a great weekend. I know God wants to do something special in our church!! This is our anniversary revival, the church is celebrating three years!!

This coming Sunday will be a combined service between both churches. We will be dedicating the newly constructed church at Las Uvas. This is a big moment for us. I'm so excited. Pray that all goes well and that God is glorified.

Sunday night we will be in Nicaragua for an evening service at the H.I.M. church in Salamaji. Pray for traveling mercies.

The Nicaragua church is celebrating seven years!! I felt God's help each night as I preached and there were many who came forward to pray and seek spiritual help. Each time I visit the church I feel more and more at home, these are very special people.

Fire Jugglers

I always enjoy seeing the jugglers and flame throwers perform at red lights. It's their way of making a living. I would rather they throw some sticks around rather than throw a gun in my face and steal my money. So once in awhile I give them some money. They are fun to watch.

I was visiting Melvin the other day and watching him work. He makes a living quarrying rock. It was incredible to see him tear this rock apart in such a short time. I thought you might like to see how it's done.

Dried Fish Soup

It's tradition in Honduras that during Lent people eat dried fish soup. I'm not sure if there is some kind of symbolism to it or not but it's at least tradition. So I was invited to Baudilio's house for a nice big bowl of soup. It was very good. The rice on the side is to add to the soup. Tortillas are wrapped in the towel on the table.

May it be an encouragement to us all to never give up praying for lost children, parents, aunts or uncles, family or friends who still haven't given their lives to Christ. God may answer that prayer at the last moment. We never know. God is love and God is light and His will is that all should come to repentance.

You're Not Going to Believe This!!

Folks, I have just accomplished one of my greatest achievements. I made today, for the first time, all by myself my favorite meal. Breaded porkchops, corn and mashed potatoes. Now I know for you this would have been a piece of cake. But if you know me, and if you know how handicapped I am when it comes to cooking you would be jumping up and down with joy. The meal turned out great. It not only tasted good, it actually looks good!! Now I gotta go clean up the mess.

Church Watch-night Service

Last evening we held what they call a "vigilia", kinda like a watch-night service. A normal vigilia they usually go until sunrise, we stopped at 2:30 a.m. Usually you have a church service, then a break for food and coffee, then you come back for more preaching and singing and you go all through the night. Our vigilia didn't go that long but it was still fun. We had around 55 people come and we enjoyed the service and the singing.

This is Miguel. I am trying to train him to be my kinda of assistant pastor at Las Uvas. He is going to be preaching this coming Tuesday night, he is really nervous. He loves to learn and he is doing a great job, pray that God will help us raise up leaders in our churches.

It was a chilly night, the campfire was very comforting.

Thoughts of Home

I caught this picture in Las Uvas the other evening. It reminded me of heaven. Once again I realized I'm just passing through this world, my home is on the other side.

A Visit to the Country

I headed out to the country today. It was nice getting out of the city and breathing some good clean air. Back in January a new couple started attending our church through the marriage seminar. Roberto and Jenny have been coming quite faithfully and twice now Roberto's father has visited our church when he was in town. His father lives about an hour and half from our place and invited me to come to his house for a visit. He doesn't have an established church near him and they have had preachers come and go over the years. So I went out today to visit and scout around.

Here is the old homestead where Roberto grew up (his dad is standing with the blue shirt). It's made out of adobe and just has that laid back country feel. All that was missing was a cold glass of southern tea. Instead we had a hot glass of coffee.

The backside of the old kitchen. They usually have a separate building like this for their kitchen because of the soot and smoke.

Cooking beans and tortillas and warming up a pot of coffee on the adobe hearth. Those were some of the best tortillas I have had in a long time. Roberto bought a cooked chicken on the way there.

Showing us around his fields. They grow plenty of corn, beans, onions, platano and pineapple. Boy was that pineapple good today!! I have a few hunks of it in my refrigerator that they sent home with me.

I learned something new today. I don't know much about plants but they told me that the little shoots coming out from under the pineapple are the "sons". You take one of those shoots and plant them in the ground to start the next pineapple plant. So I guess you could call them the pineapple "seeds".

Picking onions to take home. When they asked me if I wanted some and I told them I don't eat onions they all laughed at me. I guess I'm just a crazy gringo.

Baudilio was very happy with his pineapple and onions that he got to take home.

They have worked and saved over the years and have gotten this far in their church building. They have only had visiting pastors come and go over the years but nobody has ever come to stay. But they still hope that someday they will have a church and a pastor.

We went around inviting neighbors to the little service we held out on the porch before we left for home.

There wasn't many of us but we had a good service. In these kind of moments I'm so glad that Jesus said, "where two or three are gathered in my name there am I in the midst of them". That verse becomes a reality. Hopefully our visit today was an encouragement to them.

Helping Baudilio

Friday I got to clean the rust off of a few of my tools. I went to Baudilio's house to help him cut some beams for his roof. The tin is rusting through and the beams are rotting out.

I really appreciate Baudilio. It's been three years this month that he was baptized. He has a servant's heart and the Lord has made him a great blessing.

Joseph's Diploma

Joseph finished school back in November but I just now got around to picking up his diploma. The teacher said he did an excellent job!! Now it's time to move on to kindergarten. Congratulations Joseph!!! Good job!

He also got a special picture and frame to remember his first year of school. At the bottom is a picture of his teacher Miss Anna and his class. By the way Joseph, your teacher said to tell you hi. All your friends are asking about you at school!
